Multi-Language ATMs - Phoenix Interactive helps provide another Australian first for St.George Bank!
Phoenix Interactive is pleased to report the successful rollout of yet another ATM initiative aimed at delivering a superior consumer experience to St.George's customers, as well as all Australians who choose to use St.George Bank and BankSA branded ATMs.
As background, in late 2002, St.George awarded Phoenix an exclusive contract to provide VISTAatm as the software solution to drive their ATMs. Since going live in July 2003 the St.George and Phoenix teams have worked as one to deliver several new features such as Text-to-Speech audio capability to facilitate ATM usage by the visually impaired. Today's news is another first for Australia, the deployment of multi-language capability across the Bank's ATM estate. More specifically, users of St.George and BankSA ATMs will now be offered the option of conducting ATM transactions in any one of seven languages - English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Vietnamese, Filipino, and Italian.
Martin Eltoft, St.George Chief Manager Electronic Banking Solutions, said, "The flexibility of VISTAatm made it an easy decision to approve this project which focuses solely on adding value for our customers. We recognise that needs and expectations across our various delivery channels is different and consequently it doesn't make sense to work to the lowest common denominator, that is, just because we don't offer language options today via Internet Banking doesn't mean that we shouldn't do it at the ATM. Of course, we did appropriate market research that included a measure of interest as well as the selection of languages to be deployed initially - and we will continue to explore adding even more languages in the future."

St.George is the first major ATM deployer in this part of the world to give customers a language option at the ATM.
